Little Owl At Nest Site

New for 2019 we have constructed a new hide facing the nest site of these facinating little characters, you will be able to photograph them and hopefully their offspring with your camera level with the entrance of their nest hole appox 8 metres away.  We believe this is a first for the UK and promises to be very interesting. Little Owls in the UK hold a great fascination and desirability to photographers. We have put all the ground work in behind the scene and we are very pleased to now being able to offer this unique opportunity to photograph one of the most beautiful species, the Little Owl. The hide is based in Worcestershire where we have built a wooden three man permanent raised hide situated where the birds feed. We work mainly with the Owls in the spring and autumn/winter where the birds come to perches about 8 metres from the hide.  Like our Kingfisher set-up you can change the perches throughout the day giving you a very varied portfolio. These birds offer a memorable day in the hide and in spring or early summer we often get the newly fledged young owls feeding as well as their parents. (A 500mm or 300mm with convertor would be our recommendation/choice)  THIS HIDE HAS TOILET FACILITIES.

All species of Owls are very elusive in the UK and can prove very difficult subjects for wildlife photographers.  Our aim with this hide is to get you some intimate images of one of the most beautiful Owls in the UK the Little Owl.
Our Little Owl hide is located in Worcestershire near the town of Droitwich.  It is very close to the Junction 5 on the M5 motorway, once you’ve taken the signs for Bromsgrove, go under the motorway and you need to take your first turning on your left and you will see a McDonald’s the postcode is WR9 7PA.  On the morning Darren (mobile no: 07850878370)  will meet you in the car park at McDonald’s at 8 am. It is then a short drive to the farm where the Little Owls are located.  Darren will set you up in the hide and you can then choose your first perch for the day.  It is important that you pay attention to how Darren sets the perch up so that you can get the best out of the day and also to have a varied selection of images it is best to change the perches throughout the day.  You can get in and out of the hide but obviously this will disturb the Owls so it is best to only get out on a few occasions to change the perch or go to the toilet.  The Owls are very site faithful and will return but it takes them longer to come back if they’re disturbed so it is in your best interest to stay in the hide as much as you can.
What to Bring:
The vast majority of your time will be spent in the hide; in terms of clothing you will need some warm clothes because it can be cold at this time of year.  It is also a  5 minute walk to the hide so please bring waterproof clothing too because you don’t want to get wet before the day even starts.  You will need a good pair of strong walking boots or wellington boots. The weather is difficult to predict at this time of the year, it could be cold especially in the early morning and then gets warmer as the day progresses, so bring hats and gloves as well. You will need to bring your own food but free hot drinks will be supplied. THIS HIDE HAS TOILET FACILITIES.
Camera Equipment:
In terms of camera kit you'll need a bean bag, the longest lens you have (300mm or 500mm + convertor would be our recommendation/choice) plenty of flash cards and batteries.  There is no electricity in the hide so please make sure that you have spare batteries that are fully charged because on a good day you can take lots of great images.
